Why "Your Shine is Beautiful?"

When my boy was just a little one of six he met a friend who would be a friend for many years (in fact he continues to be treasured by us today...) and in turn we would meet an entire family who came to be precious to us. Every time the mom would drop off her children she would say, "Shine" and send them on their way. As she became one of my truest friends I picked up the phrase as well. Now, with the boy nearing 16, saying "Shine" is second nature.

For Mother's Day 2011 the (almost 16 year old) boy made me a most precious card and in it he wrote, "Your shine is beautiful." And with that my heart leaped because at that moment I knew that he understands and that we need to shine and be beacons in our world.

"Your shine is beautiful." Simple.
