10 things

This is no-buy January for me - not necessarily to save money but more to squash (at least in part) that overwhelming feeling of unthinking consumerism...
So, here is a list of things I didn't buy so far this month:
  1. lip balm - I could use a new one or two but I'm making do with the couple that I've scrounged from pockets and bottoms of purses (p.s. I'm a lip balm addict).
  2. the portable iHome that I saw for a screaming deal at Marshall's - putting it on my birthday list and if I don't get it then I'm buying it myself (probably full price).
  3. a hair cut/color - sigh
  4. whipped vodka (almost out...eeeks!)
  5. a new red/green rubbermaid for our Christmas decorations
  6. any scrap stuff from Fred Meyer (I caught myself before even heading down that aisle)
  7. the cute sale stuff at Starbucks
  8. any magazine at the grocery store (this is a weakness that is getting much better)
  9. Spotify for my phone (I want sooooo bad!)
  10. new camera app for my phone (although I would like it...to join my other 16. huh)

January 7, 2012

One thing.

A new year always seems to bring about a desire for change, for improvement, for becoming a better you (me). So when Ashley over at The Shine Project posted about change and challenge to become a better person my eye was caught and I jumped.

The first challenge...to answer the question
"If I could change one thing in the world, what would it be?"
Write down the first thing that comes to mind.
I took this challenge and direction to heart and the first word to come to mind was
LOVE.
I wasn't sure what this meant at first. LOVE. What does that have to do with changing the world?
So, I decided to just take time. To think. Ponder. Determine how I could use love to change the world.

So, what did I come up with?
First, I am a simple girl. I have simple needs, simple wants.
Second, I am a "think globally, act locally" type of girl.
Third, I like my life to be an open book. I love my family and I love my friends. People are what make my world go around.
My desire is for the people I know and love to know I love them. I want them to know that I am genuine, that I am truly thankful for them to be in my life. I want to not only tell people but show them love.
And how will this change the world?
I believe that when people know they are loved, when you show them, when you tell them, when you are there and unconditional not only will they feel better about themselves they will be better people. By loving big the people we know, the people we come into daily contact with these people will in turn make a difference. It's all a circle...what comes around goes around. LOVE.
